About Nova Steel

Nova Steel is a North American leader in value-added steel processing and manufacturing, undergoing a significant digital transformation. Our technology ecosystem is built on Microsoft Fabric and Azure, integrating external large language models (LLMs) such as Claude, GPT-4o, and Llama, alongside complex ERP, MES, and industrial systems.

As our AI Solutions Architect, you'll play a key role in ensuring the integrity, scalability, and long-term evolution of our enterprise AI architecture.

Position Overview

The AI Solutions Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving Nova Steel's enterprise AI and data architecture.

Working closely with the Director of AI & Business Intelligence, Data Engineers, ML Engineers, and business stakeholders, you'll bridge AI strategy and technical execution. You'll ensure every layer of the platform—from data ingestion through AI orchestration to business consumption—is secure, scalable, well-governed, and aligned with Nova Steel's operational systems.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own and evolve Nova Steel's Target Data & AI Architecture, including data ingestion, Medallion Lakehouse architecture, AI orchestration, agent frameworks, and analytics consumption.
  • Design integration patterns between Microsoft Fabric and enterprise source systems, including ERP, MES, SCADA, IoT/OPC-UA, SQL Server, and Oracle.
  • Define multi-LLM orchestration patterns using Azure AI Foundry, Semantic Kernel, Prompt Flow, and related technologies.
  • Design Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures using Azure AI Search and Microsoft Fabric OneLake Gold layers.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, including naming conventions, code quality, integration patterns, security-by-design principles, and architectural governance.
  • Lead architecture and solution design reviews before development begins.
  • Produce and maintain architecture documentation, including Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), reference architectures, and integration standards.
  • Collaborate with Microsoft and strategic technology partners to maximize the value of Microsoft Fabric and Azure AI capabilities.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and architectural patterns to continuously evolve Nova Steel's AI roadmap.

Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Architecture, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in Cloud, Data, or Enterprise Solution Architecture.
  • Minimum 3 years designing AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics solutions.
  • Deep expertise with Microsoft Azure technologies, including Microsoft Fabric, Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Azure Data Factory, Azure Event Hubs, and Azure AI Search.
  • Strong understanding of modern data architecture patterns, including Lakehouse, Medallion Architecture, Lambda, Kappa, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
  • Experience integrating enterprise systems such as ERP, MES, SCADA, IoT platforms, SQL Server, and Oracle.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable, production-ready technical architectures.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and technical documentation skills.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is required.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305), AI-102, or DP-203.
  • Experience with Semantic Kernel, LangChain, or other AI agent orchestration frameworks.
  • Knowledge of MQTT, OPC-UA, and industrial IT/OT architectures.
  • Experience within manufacturing, industrial processing, or heavy industry environments.
  • Previous collaboration with Microsoft FastTrack programs or strategic Microsoft partnerships.
