Position overview:

The Health and Safety (H&S) Coordinator is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving the company’s health and safety programs across all production sites.
Under the supervision of the H&S Manager and in collaboration with plant managers, the Coordinator ensures regulatory compliance, accident prevention, and the promotion of a strong safety culture within steel processing operations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and update H&S policies, procedures, and programs adapted to steel manufacturing and material handling activities.
  • Ensure compliance with CNESST requirements and internal industrial safety standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment, production areas, and workstations to identify risks (machine safety, material handling, noise, ergonomics, etc.).
  • Coordinate H&S audits and follow corrective measures with local teams.
  • Actively participate in the H&S Committees at each site: prepare meeting agendas, draft minutes, and ensure follow-up on recommendations.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; analyze root causes and recommend sustainable corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources in managing CNESST claims and return-to-work processes.
  • Plan and ensure the delivery of mandatory training sessions (WHMIS, lockout/tagout, confined spaces, etc.).
  • Update and coordinate emergency plans and evacuation procedures for all sites.
  • Support managers in the selection, compliance, and training related to personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Produce and analyze H&S performance indicators, identify trends, and propose continuous improvement action plans.
  • Contribute to the harmonization and standardization of H&S practices across all manufacturing sites.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally in steel processing, metallurgy, or heavy industry.
  • Strong understanding of Quebec’s occupational health and safety legislation (LSST, RSST, CNESST).
  • Hands-on experience with machine safety, lockout/tagout, and industrial ergonomics.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and team engagement skills in unionized or non-unionized settings.
  • Strong on-floor leadership, rigor, and ability to positively influence the safety culture.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) required, both spoken and written.
  • Mobility: frequent travel between the company’s various sites.
