Nova Steel Key Historical Milestones

For more than four decades, Nova Steel has grown with purpose — expanding our capabilities, strengthening domestic manufacturing, and building lasting relationships across North America. 1979 — Foundations in Montréal: The Beginning of Nova Steel

Nova Steel is founded in Montréal by Bryan Jones as a processor of hot-rolled carbon steel

1983 — Advancing Tubing: First Mill and Strategic Joint Venture

Nova installs its first tube mill in Montréal, accelerating welded tubing growth. A joint venture with Ispat Sidbec is formed in 1987

1985 — Expanding Capabilities: Entry into Roll Forming & Stamping

Nova acquires a majority stake in Cresswell Roll Forming Inc., expanding into roll forming, stamping, and manufacturing in Québec

1996 — Cross-Border Growth: Acquisition of American Steel & Aluminum (ASA)

Nova acquires American Steel & Aluminum (ASA), establishing a U.S. footprint and expanding distribution across North America

1996 — First Hydroformed Tube Mill

Nova installs a tube mill in Ontario specifically designed for high‑pressure hydroformed tubing, supporting the automotive industry

1997 — Public Market Debut: Novamerican Steel Goes Public

Nova/Novamerican goes public under the Novamerican Steel name

1998 — Expansion into Pickling

Nova establishes a steel processing center in Stoney Creek, Ontario, adding pickling and slitting capabilities to support growing downstream operations

1999 — Scaling the Network: Creation of Chriscott Logistics

Chriscott Logistics is created to support Nova’s growing North American operations

2004 — First Temper Mill in Canada (Nova Steel LaSalle)

Nova moves operations to a newly constructed facility in LaSalle, Québec, adding an in‑line temper mill and cut‑to‑length line — the first of its kind in Canada

2007 — Novamerican Steel Sold to Symmetry Holdings

Novamerican Steel is sold to Symmetry Holdings, marking a new chapter in the company’s evolution

2009 — Entry into Standard Pipe & Tube Manufacturing

Nova acquires ArcelorMittal’s tubular products facility on St-Patrick Street in Montréal, establishing Nova Tube Inc. and entering the pipe and tube market

2009 — The Jones Family Rebuilds Nova

Bryan and Scott Jones repurchase Nova Steel and rebuild the business following restructuring

2010 — Expansion into Mexico

Nova expands operations into Mexico, extending its integrated North American supply and service footprint

2015 — Strategic Manufacturing Partnership

Cresswell, a Nova company, formalizes its manufacturing partnership with Peikko for DELTABEAM® solutions

2020 — Investing in U.S. Supply: New ERW Tube Mills in Delta, OH

Nova Tube & Steel announces two ERW tube mills in Delta, Ohio to supply HSS and standard pipe to U.S. markets

2021–2022 — Automotive Expansion in Bowling Green, KY

Nova Steel USA opens a $70M automotive tube facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky, creating 110 new jobs

2022–2023 — Modernization & Integration

Major investments are made to modernize the Saint-Hubert operation; Cresswell Industries rebrands as Nova Steel Products

2024 — Leadership, Legacy & Continued Growth

Industry recognition reinforces Nova’s founding legacy. Scott Jones is named Executive of the Year by Metal Center News
